Clarifi ASD benefits

Health care providers
Clarifi ASD is a revolutionary epigenetic test, based on peer-reviewed research, that can benefit health care providers and their patients.
Clarifi ASD provides a probability score that informs clinical diagnostics. This should help health care providers make earlier diagnoses, provide more targeted referrals, and facilitate access to intervention services at younger ages.
Clarifi ASD is a biological tool that provides a probability of an autism diagnosis (0-100%). This helps identify children with autism as early as 18 months to expedite access to services.

More clinical application

Diagnostic aid: Clarifi ASD™ is intended to be used with children when there is a suspicion of autism (e.g. positive screening results) as early as 18 months.

HCP collaboration: Test results can facilitate collaboration between primary care and clinicians conducting diagnostic evaluations to expedite early intervention services.

Another tool in the toolbox: Test results provide primary care and specialists biological data to complement behavioral assessments.

Insight for parents: Provides added clarity and prompts next steps toward intervention.
“In too many cases children may not receive a diagnosis until they are 5 years old. Early diagnosis is critical for children with autism, and primary care providers play an important role in that initial process.”

The Clarifi ASD story
Clarifi ASD was discovered largely by chance. A pediatric resident at SUNY Upstate Medical University, experiencing challenges with the autism diagnostic process, wondered if the epigenetic research he conducted for his PhD training could be applied to autism. So he and his research professor decided to look for a correlation between epigenetic molecules in the saliva (e.g., micro RNA) and autism in children. They hoped to develop a biological test that would decrease the wait time for a final diagnosis and the start of autism specific interventions.
The pilot study, funded by the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), provided some unexpected and exciting results: differences in RNA features were found to accurately differentiate children with autism from their peers. This discovery led to a series of larger studies and peer-reviewed publications over the next seven years, culminating in the first ever epigenetic saliva test for autism.
